Can the ignition of creativity be achieved with just a single word? The assignment’s directive was concise: “Folding.” The objective entailed crafting a product capable of undergoing folding and metamorphose into something else.
My choice was to center this creation around addressing the shelter needs of the homeless. I conceptualized a piece of clothing tailored to accommodate their urban nomadic existence. To me, their lifestyle perfectly embodies the essence of “folded,” given the pivotal role of consistently folding their minimal possessions for effortless and continual navigation through the city.
No.Mad employs the design of a poncho to fashion a collapsible shelter. The poncho unfurls, enveloping the individual, who then seamlessly folds into its protective confines. Crafted from recycled windsurf sail material, this wearable shelter boasts waterproof, wind-resistant, and lightweight properties. Additionally, the structural ribs of the sail serve as the framework for the poncho.
In essence, No.Mad stands as a portable tent tailored for urban nomads, crafted from repurposed textiles. The poncho’s configuration is strategically designed to offer a straightforward foldable mechanism, ensuring swift and effortless setup.
